Candling is an age-old practice that some believe dates back to ancient Egypt, but others, like the Tibetans, Chinese, Mayans and even the Native American Indian have laid claim to their use. The process of burning a candle (a hollow beeswax coated cotton cloth) produces this warmth and crackling sound as the candle burns down, which is very relaxing and soothing. Many who have used them claim other benefits as well. Like relieving sinus pressure, congestion, a feeling of balance, improved hearing and sense of smell, reduced stress levels, less pain in the jaw, and fewer headaches.
